This plan is for a garden which slopes away from the house towards the bottom of the garden. The clients have built a new extension with French doors that lead from the back of the house and which are raised 1 metre above the ground, consequently the clients needed a raised deck and steps down to access the garden.
When standing looking out onto the garden from the house it appears foreshortened due to its sloping away to the boundary at the far end. This made the garden appear wider than it was long.
In order to give the garden the illusion of greater depth, I turned the focus towards the bottom right hand corner. The axis was turned by 45 degrees. .
Water leads from the cascade out of a spout in the lower deck, down a rill on two levels to a pool opposite the summer house.
